Bloom
The idea behind this thesis stems from my personal experience. Growing up, I observed my paternal grandparents suffer from stroke at different stages in time. Their health deteriorated and eventually they lost their lives to grave medical condition. The entire process of looking after their health and monitoring every minute change, had a heavy impact on the family’s mental health. Unanimously we assumed the roles of primary ‘caregivers’ for our family heads as we began to adjust in tune with the patients’ needs. This lifestyle modification led me to think about the desperation behind the need of a digital system that would specifically enable and aid caregivers to look after their patient’s needs better. Such a digital system or an app could empower caregivers to feel more in control of the situation as they deal with a new set of added responsibilities and the inevitable cognitive overload. My observation gave birth to Bloom; an app that is built upon the ideology to help caregivers of homebound stroke patients provide efficient care to the best of their abilities without compromising their emotional wellness.
