Subcultures are originated in response to the dominant cultural industry that marginalizes them on the basis of their race, ethnicity, economic status and tries to restrict their socio-cultural agency. These people re-establish their agency by taking control of the streets and public spaces through different art forms like music, fashion, dance, theater etc. Subcultures occupy a different space than the dominant culture that follows strict spatial orders of orthogonality, symmetry, balance and functionality. However, subcultures rely on their quality of being informally different and ability to accept cultural differences. Hence, in response to the subcultural needs of the people, this thesis aims to develop a subaltern mode of production of cultural spaces that establishes spatial agency by looking at informality and flexibility in architecture.
