Untitled

In search of the sky that I’ve lost in this landscape shift after moving from Jamshoro – Hyderabad, I struggle to find a way to breathe in this concrete jungle that Karachi is. As I travel in a taxi, I started photographing the apartments from my street Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road (Clifton block 8) to IVS (Clifton block 2). Through this archive, I created digital collages reflecting the lack of planning and the greed of the real estate culture which presents a utopia. My process is design-oriented, focusing on “shape, form & color” as I started off as a painter. The technique of making is inspired by the architectural language focusing on alignment, and monotony. While thinking of livable spaces, the collages follow a sense of illogical construction so my work is a response to how difficult it is for me to make sense of what Karachi is becoming.
