Garments confined in multiple piles or casually stacked on the tuckered sofa is the eternal state of my space. Many of these inessential clothing items are a reflection of a consumerist culture which forces one to purchase these items. My ball-point and color pencil drawings of fabrics one-on top of the other comment on an excess of apparel. This excess correlates with impulsive purchasing practices that I have embodied since a young age due to the privilege and ability to afford such items. It’s simply a result of ‘you can never have too many things’. The growing fast fashion industry has contributed to my own abundance of clothing. These fabric pile-on structures can also be seen within the city, Karachi, such as at the local tailors, and flea markets which act as visual references for my drawings.
