“Beyond Shelter”
The concept of my work is inspired by the shelter provided by the pine trees in my hometown Abbottabad. Coming to a city like Karachi, away from heights and green peaks, gave me the realization that a lot of homeless individuals and flood victims have suffered immensely since they did not have a shelter over their heads under the scorching Sun in the city. The focus of my thesis is to work towards building shelters/multi-functional products for the displaced, local vendors, road side residing population and the general public. Since my products are multifunctional and can be used to design exterior spaces like car parking lots, waiting areas, dividers/partitions etc. I collected all sorts of waste material and utilized them to form a very low budget, but aesthetically pleasing and more so free of cost product options for my targeted audience.
