Fish catch has been considerably compromised due to the depleting ecology and the toxic waste effluence from industries engulfing the fishing communities of Karachi, yet, communities continue to inhabit such altered landscapes due to their attachment to place. Karachi’s Rehri Goth has been particularly vulnerable to the slow depletion of catch therefore an architecture intervention in three phases is integral, namely; environmental, social and economic. The programmatic aim of the thesis is to formalize scavenging on site and to develop a market for waste whilst incorporating and repurposing obsolete fishing skills.
