JAMA THEENZI – A COMMUNITY CENTRE

Project Title:

Women & Children of Memon Community

Karachi has come to a point where it appears to have lost its breathing lungs since the urban densification has fairly messed up the living cycle of each individual. Densification of Karachi is rapidly happening and a few structures around us are at a point of exhaustion and decaying on a day by day basis. It feels as if a few buildings or structures are calling for care, love, and repair and in short attempting discourse with us since many of us overlooked or disregarded these places for a long time. Decay is a dying natural process where people's memories, spaces and structures all tend to die particularly in absence of human presence. In order to preserve these spaces from further decay and keep the idea of memory intact my thesis revolves around the idea of Revitalization where I am aiming to achieve a smooth and humble transition from the building's past to its modern use by continuously keeping up a piece of memory through programmatic functions.
