Opulence in Marriage

In our society, marriage poses a financial challenge, resulting in late marriages and the birth of a girl is often considered a burden in regions such as the subcontinent. Whether it be in the form of dowry or the wedding ceremony itself, it has become a way for people to show off their wealth and how much they can spend. There is a need to bring a change and talk about this practice that has become the norm, due to societal pressures. The project is a social media campaign to create awareness, along with some peer testimonials.

This social media post is meant to highlight a compassionate relationship between a father and his daughter.

This post is questioning the viewer that even if a girl has everything, but is offering no dowry, would she be accepted as a good match?

Through this post I wanted to show how a man in our society might not be considered enough and his possessions are key in order to secure a ‘rishta’.

This social media post is meant to depict a dolled up bride, but behind all that glamour, is a very frustrated and exhausted woman who might have gone through painstakingly tough scenarios in order to get married.

Keeping in mind the current pandemic, this post was created to talk about how it is indeed possible to have modest weddings, hence this could be the new normal.

The message attached to this post is that tying a knot should not follow a materialistic and shallow approach.

The testimonials will hope to develop trust in the campaign and consist of individuals from different age brackets, backgrounds and current employment statuses. These individuals and their accounts, with their support of the campaign will help resonate more with the audience who might see themselves in them, sharing similar problems that might generally go unnoticed by the vast majority.
