This project is about the translation of a folktale related to the coast of Karachi, into an architectural promenade along the Kemari and Manora jetties. One of the folktales associated with the coast of Karachi, is the story of Moriro Mirbahar and the treacherous sea. The story is about how Karachi flourished as a fishing village and is coded with a lot of deeper philosophical meanings. This thesis explores the potential of story telling that architecture holds, as a tool to shed light on this folktale and the underlying themes. The objective of the thesis is to create a gateway for the metaphorical re-birth of Moriro, as the archetypal symbol of courage for the city, that continues to remain trapped in a whirlpool of challenges.
